GC, GC/MS File ManagerTM

Program Features

This program facilitates GC and GC/MS file management and "housekeeping" tasks such as rapid file location based on file header information, compilation of project reports and instrument log books, documentation of analytical activities, and record keeping of file backups. Supported file formats include Hewlett Packard GC and GC/MS Chemstation™, Finnigan Magnum™, ITDS™, Saturn™, EzChrom™ and Shimadzu™ GC/MS data files. This program can be configured to sort file entries based on file dates, file names, operator names, or run comments. Display features may be configured to fit your preferences by specifying a default file directory path, file search mask, and file type. These features facilitate record keeping particularly for laboratories which employ different brands of analytical instrumentation.

Creating Activity Reports with GC, GC/MS File ManagerTM

The data file list displayed in the main program window can be printed in its entirety. Alternatively, specific file entries may be highlighted for printing, or file information copied to the clipboard for import into spread sheets or word processing programs. This will drastically improve your efficiency in creating written records of your analytical activities, replacing illegible or incomplete log book entries, and maintaining thorough records of the contents of backed-up data files.

Correction of Erroneous Header Information
Incorrectly entered information in data file headers is a particularly troublesome problem which nearly all users of analytical equipment are familiar with. Editing, even if possible, may result in compromised data integrity. On the other hand, erroneous file information is confusing at best. GC, GC/MS File Manager™ solves this dilemma by letting you edit file header fields, but automatically creating records of all file edits. Each record specifies which information has been edited, by whom, and when. This information is appended to data files as a permanent record. Dual privilege level password protection is available for this feature: names of authorized individuals may be added to a password list accessible only to the laboratory manager.

Detailed File View

By selecting a specific data file from the file list, you can view additional file information including method file name, index, vial number and other information supported by your specific file format, without a need to individually open data files. Any previous changes in header file information are indicated and may be reviewed.

Additional Program Features
Single or multiple data files may be selected for deletion after review of their contents. This greatly diminishes the probability of accidentally deleting important information. Extensive on-line help is available to answer most of your questions, including information about file formats, typical operations, program password features etc.
