DEUTERIUM LABELED EICOSANOIDS AND LIPIDS
Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GCMS) is the most sensitive and specific method
for measurement of eicosanoids1-9 and PAF10-12.
Sensitivities on the picogram level are routinely achieved using GCMS with selected ion
monitoring. A basic requirement for a specific and precise quantitative assay is the
availability of stable isotope labeled target standards. Such standards are added to the
biological sample immediately following collection and not only serve as internal
standards for final quantitation but reflect the recovery of the target eicosanoid through
isolation, purification and derivatization steps.
