R&D Systems' new Cytokine Expression Array allows you to determine the RNA level for approximately 400 cytokines and related factors in one standard hybridization experiment. To obtain the same amount of data would require performing hundreds of Northern Blots or RT-PCRs. cDNA array analysis of different samples allows identification of known RNAs that are differentially expressed in response to extracellular signals. The cDNA array is comprised of DNA coding regions spotted in duplicate on a charged nylon membrane. Radiolabeled cDNA made from total or poly(A)+RNA samples is used as a probe. The hybridization and exposure methods are identical to performing a Southern Blot. No specialized detection instrumentation is needed.
